Welcome to AMR's online resource for ambulance driver education in Southern California's Riverside and San Bernardino Counties! Our Clinical Education Services Department is responsible for education, training, and quality improvement. We conduct the ambulance driver training of our EMTs and paramedics. Our courses are currently open only to the AMR staff of the operations that we serve in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. We strive to improve the performance of our own staff, while contributing to the excellence of the EMS system as a whole. We offer the Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course (EVOC) at our Rancho Operation, with track days at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, and field and remedial ambulance driver education throughout Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Please enjoy our site!
Campuses
Our campuses are conveniently located in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, making access simple from San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, Imperial, and all of Southern California.
Track days on our driving range can be identified by the presence of uniformed students and red shirted instructors, AMR ambulances, coned courses, and our E-Z UP. It is a closed course, no one is allowed onto the track without the explicit permission of the Driver Development Specialist and Auto Club Speedway staff!
All students are to enter the track off of the Cherry street gate. All students will be required to sign a track waiver at the gate and then report to parking lot #8.
Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night cancels track. Track starts at 0900 and continues until completed. Students should make a note of the date, time, and location so that they will be on time. Tardy students will be asked to reschedule their attendance at another class.
Students must park in designated spots and will be allowed onto the track when called by the range master. Students must be in uniform, carrying their driver's license and ambulance certificate, and wearing glasses or contacts as needed. Students that have had any type of surgery will need a doctor's note.
We provide all you can drink, Aquafina drinking water and shelter from the sun/cold. Students will need to bring a chair to sit on due to none being available at the track. Students may bring their own drinks but due to a exclusive Pepsi contract at the speedway only Pepsi products are allowed on the property. (Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Cherry Pepsi, Sierra Mist, Gatorade products and Aquafina water!) At lunch time we ask that all students leave the course for their one hour lunch and not bring any food onto the property. The Speedway has an exclusive food contract with Americrown and all food must be approved by the Driver Specialist and Americrown staff (No exceptions allowed).
Courses
Our course is based on the National Standard Curriculum from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). DOT-NHTSA has the responsibility to develop training courses that are responsive to guidelines established by the Highway Safety Act of 1966. In 1978, NHTSA developed the: Training Program for Operation of Emergency Vehicles: A National Standard Curriculum (EVOC). The 1978 edition of the EVOC course has been revised to the Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (Ambulance): National Standard Curriculum, to ensure that it is accurate, current, and that it incorporates adult learning strategies. The National Standard Curriculum has been further revised by AMR specifically for our employees to address both emergency, and non-emergency operation of our ambulances.
Our revised curriculum is appropriate for all of our operations, and is mandatory training for all AMR employees who operate an ambulance. EVOC curriculum is comprised of 3 modules. Module A includes 8 hours of didactic classroom instruction, followed by a written examination. Module B provides 8 hours of hands on instruction as participants practice ambulance operator skills on a closed course driving range. Module B is graded on a pass/fail basis. Module C allows our Field Training Officers to assess the driving performance of our new employees during our daily operations.
